Computer Lifecycle
Each step of a pc's life has an environmental impact. .
1. Design
Designers and engineers make choices which will affect pc' production: design, use, components. They may also affect environment choosing materials that can be recycled, studying energetic saving and making products easy to disassemble.
2. RESOURCES
Resources come from environment. During this step, it is really important the choice of materials with low environmental impact, the use of recycling products and the use of few waste materials.
3. PRODUCTION
Industries use energy and materials to create pc. Products may affect environment: paying attention to waste, pollution, energy and offering to customers recycling programmes.
4. distribution
Distribution brings product to customers. The environmental impact in this step may consider: resources used for transport (by air, sea, street), transport distance and packaging.
5. USE
The way we use a computer may affect environment. Some suggestions: switch off pc when you don't use it, use energetic saving systems, update products to extend their life.
6. UPDATE
When a pc is updated by specialized technicians, its life is significantly longer.
7. RE-USE
When we need no more our pc, thinking about give it to someone to give it a new life.
8. RECYCLING
When our pc is no more usable, we may bring it to recycling centers.
9. OTHER PRODUCTS
PC is disassembled to salvage materials for new products.
